When I first told people what type of business I was starting, I got a lot of skeptical looks. How could such a specialized skill provide enough work to stay in business? Well, to many, it would definitely seem that way. However, for those in industries that overlap mine, the need for rendering is evident.
Many industries now require the assistance of digital renderers. Any industry that can profit from a potential client being able to see a product or design before it is built can benefit from 3D modeling and rendering. The fields that primarily dominate the industry would be architecture firms, interior designers, contractors and real estate agencies.
For architecture firms, interior designers and contractors, the goal of providing renders is usually all the same: to make sure the client sees the vision accurately so they are sold on the idea. All three industries work with clients to help them achieve designs they have in their heads. Architects bring buildings, spaces, houses and environments to life. Everything from schools, to hospitals, to hotels and much more, are all designed by architects and interior designers. These industries need tools to show their designs as accurately as possible.
In the past, these industries relied on hand drawings to convey their designs. Now, whereas drawing is still frequently used to convey concepts, formal presentations of designs require renders. The ability to change the digital models quickly and accurately, changing the direction of the sun to match the real world, matching locations using 3D maps and more, has rendering as a faster, more efficient way to convey designs to clients. Simple with the click of a mouse, a realistic representation of the future design can be shown to a client. With realistic, specified materials applied to the model, clients can see paint applied or the carpet they picked in the room they wanted - before it even happens.
Rendering all comes back to being a marketing tool. Used as a tool to market an idea, a concept or an end vision. Through the ability to show designs before they are built, industries can now use this tool helps inspire confidence in their clients. The same goes for contractors and real estate agents. From using renders to show how a proposed neighborhood could be laid out, to showing furniture inside an empty home that cannot afford a staging agency, rendering is the marketing tool of the future.
From furniture manufacturers, to small home owners who simply want to see what a new kitchen design may look like, rendering helps bring ideas to life. Rendering helps sell the proposed by bringing the vision to reality.
